The Boiler Room was released in 2000 and contained a number of well known actors and actresses. Ben Younger wrote and directed the film which was distributed by New Line Cinema. With a gross revenue of over 28 million dollars, it is no wonder why they choose to work with such actors as Giovanni Ribisi and Ben Affleck along with Vin Diesel and acclaimed actress Nia Long appeared in this film as well.
The film spins around the world of brokerage firms which are involved in shady and dishonest methods.
A Queens, New York college drop out Seth Davis, who is played excellently by Giovanni Ribisi, runs an underground casino.
Working at the company of J.T. Marlin, Seth gets involved with the company who is running things by no more than less by the book. When he first starts to work at the company, he has no idea about the dealings that the company is involved in. With a father who is a federal judge and who he is always letting down, Seth will become more and more involved with the dealings of the brokerage firm. Learning about all the scams that the company is pulling with its clients, who are using the method of pump and dump. By creating a vast amount of fake stock and selling these items to its clients, Seth begins to realize that this is not the company that he wishes to work for and wants to get out of the company as soon as possible.
Being prompted by the FBI, Seth agrees to help the FBI bring down the J.T. Marlin company and its employee’s who are doing their illegal activities within the company. With the over-whelming feeling of guilt, he begins to try to make amends to a select one “whale” who could not afford to be scammed by the company that he once worked for. Feeling as if he was responsible for the lies that he dealt to the whale, he tries to help him as much as possible for the outcome of the company.
The DVD comes with a alternate ending which will include a ending that resembles a large amount of killings which was caused by a client who was cheated out of his money by the brokerage company.
